Overview
Future Tales | Jim Malone

Please join us at the Opening Reception Thursday, February 10 from 5 - 8pm

Artspace111 presents Future Tales by Jim Malone. Most well-known for his alluring works on paper that feature impeccable illustrations of nature and national parks, Jim Malone has worked in a variety of mediums in his extensive 50-year career. This exhibition features works composed of elaborate representations of historic marker signs, geological formations, and nostalgic architecture. He incorporates text and collage to create spontaneous expressions. Referencing his time in Big Bend and other national parks, Malone’s compositions lure the viewer in with visual promises of falling asleep under the stars, hiking tall mountains, and visiting historic landmarks. In Future Tales Jim Malone looks to his past Big Bend adventures while raising hope for the future of his excursions. The work becomes an adventure for Jim and the possibility of adventures for the viewer.

“Malone’s intuitive draftsmanship flows freely on paper recreating the iconic romantic landscapes of tthe 19th century in a nuanced surreal form. These landscapes expand off the paper and transport viewers to vast deserts and dreamlike mountainous regions. This exhibition is no different in its ability to enchant and inspire. The work reaches beyond the paper with collage and mixed media demanding our attention to the quiet and serene.” – Margery Gossett, Gallery Owner, Artspace111

Along with Future Tales by Jim Malone, Artspace111 will also present Big Bend, a group exhibition of select Artspace111 artists whose work has been inspired by the Texas National Park. This exhibition will be in the main gallery exhibiting works by Dennis Blagg, Jill Johnson, Layla Luna, Winter Rusiloski and Jim Woodson.
