LIKE

15 March - 16 April 2013
Overview

Artspace111 announces Like, a group exhibition featuring Artspace111 artists.  For this special exhibition, Artspace111’s stable joins with the artists they like.  All artist draw vision from their environments and this exhibition highlights the impact artists have on one another. Some artists are paired with artists whose style or subject matter was inspiring. Others with artists whose careers have provided motivation.  Some artists are paired because they simply like their art.

Like features the works of Alice Bateman, Daniel Blagg, Dennis Blagg, Michael Bane, Michelle Brandley, Danville Chadbourne, Matt Clark, David Conn, Carolyn Cruz, Ann Ekstrom, Pat Gabriel, Sarah Green, John Hartley, Kelli Holmes, Cindi Holt, Carol Ivey, Jill Johnson, Nancy Lamb, Leslie Lanzotti, Jim Malone, Jesus Moroles, Devon Nowlin, J.C. Pace III, Jo LeMay Rutledge, Charlotte Smith, Fred Spaulding and the artists they like.

“When I first met Linda, we were all young and energetic and looking to the previous generations for ideas and inspiration. None of the work we were producing was much beyond what we saw in magazines and museums. I remember looking at Linda’s work and realizing this. But even through her ideas were extensions of advanced work of the time, and hers seemed to have a “light from within”. It remains a mystery how this is achieved, but it is what separates mere painting from art. Ever since then, I look for this quality in whatever work I am viewing. You can see it when it is there and you miss it when it is not. Linda’s work continues to achieve this intensity of expression. It is a privilege to show with her at any opportunity.”
