Fort Worth-based artist Ariel Davis explores the symbolic weight of generational values and humble traditions through painting and sculpture. The exhibition is inspired by a family Christmas tradition of gifting oranges—a simple yet profound gesture that represents both humility and abundance. In a family of modest means, the orange symbolized a rare treat amidst everyday necessities, and Davis’s work reflects on this memory, transforming it into a visual language that speaks to the passing of wisdom, resilience, and continuity.

Through totems of balancing oranges and paintings that feature clouds, orange groves, and women handing each other oranges, Davis delves into themes of connection to nature, family, and future generations. The work is a meditation on humility as both a personal and collective experience, inviting viewers to reflect on their own traditions and the values they hold dear.

"Having worked with Ariel Davis for years—first as our gallery manager and now as she focuses on her art and consulting—I’ve seen her deep dedication to the arts. Her work explores memory, identity, and connection, inviting viewers to reflect on the traditions and moments that shape us. A Humble Gift is a compelling and deeply personal collection, showcasing her bold compositions and layered narratives." -Margery Gossett, Artspace111 Director
