Saccharine Millenia | Sari Shryack
“This series is inspired primarily by my personal experiences growing up as a child in the late 90s and early 2000s; the bold colors signify my emotional response to scenes that beg to be consumed, to be seen and heard. My life has been filled with a strong combination of uncertainty and hope, two conflicting sensations that my art attempts to address”– Sari Shryack

March 26, 2022 – May 14, 2022
Love Texas Art will host their Grand Opening and inaugural exhibition on Spring Gallery Night, March 26, 2002. Founded by Margery Gossett and Ariel Davis of Artspace111, Love Texas Art is a gallery, art lounge, and art shop with a focus on showing works by contemporary Texas artists.
Love Texas Art presents Saccharine Millenia, a solo exhibition of works by Sari Shryack (@not_sorry_art); an internationally renowned Austin based artist. Presenting a collection of still life paintings, her brightly candy-colored works of era-denoting consumer items are inspired by childhood experiences in the 90’s and 2000’s and address the obsession of consumer culture.
The exhibition will showcase a collection of contemporary impressionist works that are a sugary-sweet look back at a Y2K childhood. The use of bright and bold hues magnifies the appeal of commonplace objects like beauty products, candy, toys and stores that are inherently beautiful yet cheap and outdated. The still life works invite the viewer to consider elements of vibrant color and light both individually and as part of a compositional whole. These paintings offer a glimpse into a version of success that may be looked down upon because of its accessibility. Shryack seeks to encourage a recalibration of our understanding of value so that it can be stripped of its association with cost. Her unapologetically colorful paintings that include whimsical disco balls and even memes have drawn attention from all over the world through her social media presence on Instagram.
