This series of sculptures, Fed Up Femmes, is inspired by the ways in which womxn and femmes express themselves individually, as well as the sisterhood that’s created as a result of common experience. The colorful figures are tired-looking to represent the way I feel about how womxn are treated by both men and society as a whole. These stoic characters wear their feminine beauty and individuality with pride, while refusing to subscribe to the performative aspects of posing or smiling for the viewer. This series references the feelings of defeat and exhaustion that comes with being a feminine-presenting person and the juxtaposition of wanting to look and feel fabulous while also being fed up with the ever-present consumption and judgment of the male gaze. These femmes are quite literally objects, stuck forever on display, exhausted by but never being able to truly escape the eyes of others.
