I attempt to make my images about space. Of course there is a foreground, middle and background but I try to make space the primary subject of the image. The Polish-American poet, Czeslaw Milosz, wrote about the immensity of space stating, “Away with boundaries, those enemies of horizons! Let genuine distance appear! Everything was bathed in light, gentleness and wisdom; in the unreal air, distance beckoned to distance.” Working on the Llano Estacado, also known as the Staked Plains; I find pleasure seeing so much sky meet an endless horizon. The immensity of this space directly affects the way I see and feel. I feel connected to the earth when I am in this open space. My images are about this connection.
