Traditionally a painter, but the past few years I’ve been more focused on photography. I was influenced by local film photographers Armand Kohandani and Jason Lee, at times providing some guidance along the way as I learn about the different films and processes for development, sometimes just from an Instagram post. The reason I have decided to continue to shoot film and not digital is because I feel it has many more layers to it. I have to work more to see my photos. There’s the layer of developing the negatives. Film has the anticipation factor that we take for granted in today’s society, because everything is so instant. With film I have to wait to see the photos, to see how they came out, each time is a surprise. When that really good photo comes out, it’s more rewarding. Photography has made me look at the world differently, the way light interacts with us and the things around us. It’s made me appreciate the world around me more. Even the ugly grungy areas. 35mm film in DFW.
