My work is an examination of nature’s mark making. I am particularly interested in rocks and water. I study them to discover physical notations of the past and take note of the fluidity of the passing moment. I consider rocks as metaphors to memories and selectively record certain surface impressions to create abstract paintings. Through this process I acknowledge the inevitable interplay between personal and universal recollection. We humans often gather memory markers from natural settings. This activity fulfills a desire to interact with, and belong to our environment. Nature holds not only opportunities for physical contact with our planet, but also the chance for emotional and intellectual synergy. This intention to connect with the larger realm of time and space is imminent in human consciousness.
