A THING FROM ANOTHER WORLD – LINDA BLACKBURN
Artspace111 is pleased to announce a solo show featuring the work of Linda Blackburn. The exhibit, titled The Thing From Another World, marks Blackburn’s most recent solo show, and first at Artspace111, as she often exhibits along side her doting husband and fellow artist, Ed Blackburn.
Blackburn’s ethereal imagery depicts dramas influenced by old movies. Her use of earth-tones and bold brush strokes create movement that draws the viewer into the story being told. The juxtaposition of cold, eerie elements and light–hearted, playful undertones allows ones imagination to run freely. Various plotlines of things from the past allow Blackburn to dictate the direction of her paintings.
In describing her narrative work, Blackburn says, “When a painting is going well, I'm expecting some random order. When that begins to occur, the figures are asking the questions, what are we doing here and what is going on?... and the painting begins to grow. The landscape moves around, in and out.....until they can both co-exist and not co-exist.”
Blackburn’s work will be on exhibit April 4 - 30, 2008. An artist reception will take place Friday, April 11, 2008, 5 – 8 pm. Enjoy beer and wine by Ben E Keith, and water by Acqua Panna / San Pellegrino. The artist reception is free and open to the public.
