Vernon Fisher, Artist
Vernon Fisher is an artist living in Fort Worth with four cats and his wife, the artist Julie Bozzi, whom he suspects is also a cat. He was born in Granbury, Texas and has lived in Texas all his life except for two years of graduate school in Champaign, Illinois and a summer selling Bibles in Palatka, Florida.
His career spans 40 years. During that time he has received numerous awards including three National Endowment for the Arts Individual Artists Fellowships, a Louis Comfort Tiffany Foundation Grant, a Distinguished Teaching of Art Award from the College Art Association, and a John Simon Guggenheim Fellowship. His work has been shown internationally in cities such as London, Dusseldorf, Rotterdam, New Delhi, Mexico City, Moscow, and Seoul. He has had over eighty one-person exhibitions including installations at the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Hirshhorn Museum in Washington, D.C., the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago, and the Dallas Museum of Art. A traveling mid-career survey was organized by the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego in 1989. In 2010 the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth presented a retrospective of his work: K-Mart Conceptualism. His work is in the permanent collections of over forty art museums.
