PUZZLE WORKS: AL SOUZA

25 March - 6 May 2017
Overview

Artspace111 presents the solo exhibition Puzzle Works by celebrated artist Al Souza. One of many notable series, Souza’s Puzzle Works investigate the definition of painting by altering traditions of medium and application. By layering portions of completed jigsaw puzzles, he uses aspects of assemblage, relief, painting, and sculpture to create impactful artworks that are both visually frenetic and aesthetically cohesive.  Al Souza’s expressive artwork is in numerous public collections including the Museum of Fine Art, Houston, the Dallas Museum of Art, The Whitney Museum of American Art, and the Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art.
