I am a first year MFA graduate student at UNT, focusing on sculpture. I transform the combination of luminously transparent acrylic plastic and traditional mediums using heat, whimsy, and grace to create what initially appears as eye candy, yet lingering observation can unearth deeper meanings. Sometimes found objects, themselves having a history of use, misuse, and abandonment, are merged into the developing composition. Light, the final element, diffusely illuminating these artworks from below as they are meant to be displayed in dimly lit spaces where one’s focus is naturally sharpened. These elements coalesce in themes of our future’s wonder, manufactured dystopian realities, and science’s clinical visual oddities.
