Seas clash, storms pour over sun-soaked fields, cityscapes reach up and out, stars brighten vast stretches of space. The viewer is lured into these worlds, and simultaneously barred from the full experience. Tension is created by this familiarity of seeing the event, yet being kept from it.
Boundaries protect and limit, yet also invite the viewer closer. The ways boundaries exist vary, from orange cones to electrified fences. Visible and imaginary lines separate countries along borders, suspected criminals from society, and ultimately allow individuals to find and to define themselves.
Tesa Morin expresses her fascination with liminal experience by testing the boundaries of singularity and space. Morin’s photographs reflect her own life on the borders. She is a vegan Texan, a religious liberal, an attorney’s daughter, and a rational mystic, whose life and work has been about walking the line.
