A big part of my process could be summed up with the Latin phrase, "Carpe Diem," or “Seize the Day”. I enjoy living in the present moment for this moment is a gift that many people do not have. Chances, risks, and the challenges to fully express myself are all an exciting part of my process and my life. My pallet consists of fabrics and scraps from clothes used for African traditional ceremonies, celebrations, and weddings.
I am interested in the complex issues of language and identity, specifically being an African living in America rather than an African American who might have lived here for generations. Above all my goal is to get people to see the unique beauty of the African continent and the Tshilubian people. By arousing an appreciation of the African culture through my use of fabrics, I hope to simultaneously inspire a larger appreciation for Africans and all humanity.
