Color is light reflecting off a surface or filtering through clouds and atmosphere. The world around us sparkles and shimmers with this light that shifts throughout the day and seasons. My paintings, filled with illusory movement and ambiguous space, are a call to pause, absorb and revel in the colors that fill our world.
I take photos for inspiration during hikes along the local greenbelts, walks through my neighborhood, while sitting on my back porch or even from the car window while driving at sunset. Working with wood, saturated acrylic colors and masking tape, I break apart and reassemble these images with a self-created language of fluid lines. By abstracting the colors, forms and movement, my work plays with the subjectivity of sight and the ways people can experience differently the same places and objects.
