I’m drawn to nature’s forgotten spaces and places, whether desolate, ordinary, or vast. Even though Landscape Painting is associated with classical, timeless, & romantic ideas; I find its contemporary representation throught an aerial perspective more desirable. I try to invent paintings that embody the beauty and simplicity of the natural, combined with its ubiquitous human footprint. The aerial positioning and perspective allows a freedom to abstract and engage with color expression through a mixture of organic and geometric forms. Line and Mark-Making are important to the overall composition of the painting. I also enjoy using the tactility of the paint in some of my images to further push the surface design and flatness of the image. Though my paintings are planned to a high degree through predetermined systems, I try to resolve each painting intuitively. I attempt to reveal the natural and unnatural construction resulting from urbanization and irrigation; man’s push for survival.
