Although the majority of my work consists of oil cityscapes, I have also been working on an ongoing series of drawings and paintings based on dreams. Like most people, my dreams often take me to peculiar‚ off-kilter worlds where I wish I could linger and explore. Unfortunately‚ dreams are so short and we forget them so quickly upon waking. One morning in 1984‚ instead of forgetting the alluring place I had just awoken from‚ I reached for a sketchbook and recorded as much of it as I could before it was gone. I have been doing that ever since. In the past few years I have begun to bring these places to life on canvas‚ or sometimes as pencil drawings. So far I have only completed a handful. I use the dream as merely a starting point. The final image may go in a different direction or sometimes include elements from several dreams. I try to keep the feeling from the dream‚ but a lot of the image has to be made up to fill in the parts of the scene that couldn’t be clearly remembered.
