My art is usually directed by my interests, fond memories-nostalgia or just plain fun. I find beauty in the discarded. Where others may see an old useless piece of paper, I see an untold story. I utilize a mixed medium that incorporates acrylics, old letters, calendars, vintage magazines, cards, and photographs. My intention is to build up texture, depth and nuances that require study of the piece. I like for my art to conjure up good feelings or happy memories, I love the element of surprise when someone sees something in a piece that they did not see upon first viewing. Depending on the project and time limitations, my art usually sits in my studio for a while before I put it “out there” I let marks, spills, and scratched happen….I drip, splatter paint, sometimes covering up parts, and sometimes wiping them away and later even sanding or peeling them away, excited to see what reemerges.
