Greg Brown was born in Washington, D.C., in 1969 but grew up in the Dallas area. From 1993-2001 he worked for Neiman Marcus at the downtown Dallas location as the Men’s Designer Sportswear specialist. When he left the store, he had many Gianni Versace ties he didn’t want to discard, especially since Versace had been murdered in 1997. In 2007, Greg had the idea to paint with the ties. Thru trial-and-error, what has been created is a collection of Versace Tie Paintings. Each canvas is painted in correspondence to a certain tie and then the tie is permanently attached. Most importantly, each tie is pre-death which Gianni himself had a hand in creating. As time goes by, though, these ties are becoming more scarce. Greg strives to merge the concept of high fashion and unique art together on each canvas. Keeping the designs of Gianni Versace alive and making people smile are his motivations.
