Soon after Cat Rigdon turned 25, she went foraging for mushroom and sorrel by White Rock Lake in Dallas, Texas. There was only burdock and river weeds along the rich river bank. Then all the sudden, Rigdon looked upon a human skull - its empty eye sockets and lack of lower jaw. Her partner exited the wooded area to call the police, Rigdon had to stay with the remains. She thought, “this place is slowly killing me.” To Rigdon, Dallas is not inviting, and it is not beautiful compared to any of the other regions of Texas. It is a place to make money and raise a family. Rigdon has begun to engage with the Dallas community and is currently a Studio Artist at The Cedars Union. The drawings on Dura-Lar are based on collaged composition using limited imagery; a reflection of her monotonous studio practice with a color palette to match.
