Unseen and forgotten places in rural Texas are frequently the subject matter of my paintings. The vast expanse of the Texas sky is unobstructed by the city’s structures and a sunset is given the room it deserves to stretch across the horizon. When experiencing a sunset or sunrise, I strive to convey colors that are lusciously vibrant and intense. In nature light changes and the clouds morph into new shapes and eventually disappear. The beauty is undeniable but it is the temporary nature of a sky that gives it meaning. I feel our relationship with the landscape should be cherished and we are fortunate to experience such beauty. It is this experience that I strive to capture in my paintings.
I paint on stainless steel because of its smooth texture and reflective property. This mirror-like quality allows the viewer and the room itself to be reflected in the painting adding an immersive quality that allows the viewer to share the surface with the painting itself.
