My paintings work to illustrate a form of human condition, through portraiture and figural studies. Generally autobiographical as they represent my own subjective viewpoints on humanity, social structures, or philosophical concepts, my subjects embody either an elevation or lowering of their relative station against a “normal baseline” person, in an attempt to illustrate the chosen concept. In other words, I try to make these subjects “more” or “less” human. Some might be in situations of power while barely holding on, some weathered to the point of collapse while showing an inner strength, I employ surrealism to depict these subjects with an attempt to convey a sense of contradiction and unease.
