Since the Coronavirus pandemic began, it has completely altered my life as well as the lives of people all over the world. With this shared traumatic experience, there are many people finding different ways to cope with stress, anxiety, and depression. In this series of work, I’m portraying friends and family from varying parts of the world with a glimpse of what their daily life in quarantine looks like.
Although I referenced photos, I took creative liberties as far as choosing what was going to be well-rendered in acrylic paint and what was left seemingly undone with graphite pencil. Looking at these spaces psychologically, I chose to portray the chaos and feelings of uncertainty we’re collectively feeling by subtracting some elements of the picture. I’m using other mediums to add and subtract layers to emphasize other elements surrounding the figural subject.
