Artist Statement
West Texas and the Southwest is big and bold. It provides a multitude of interesting and diverse subjects to inspire my paintings. I find inspiration in historic photos of Native Americans and their environs, geologic formations of the southwest, indigenous structures, animals, and the landscapes as well as the beautiful sunsets that are frequently provided by our Maker.
My paintings tend to be impressionistic, but not to the extreme. They are familiar and recognizable subjects, but loose enough to leave the viewer room for interpretation. Technique, style and color are used to translate what the eye sees into something similar, but hopefully better that than the original image.
I hope to find new ways to interpret the things that surround us in our environment in a way that pleases the viewer and makes them want to say "I have seen that before, but not quite in that way".
