Free form sculpting is the path I always tend to follow. Even if I have a plan or idea, it seems to transform very quickly. I feel that this form of creativity is most rewarding. When the sculpture is completed, there are always surprises and changes that were never predetermined. For me, this makes every sculpture individual and new and fuels my passion to create.
Clay has been the medium I am most familiar with and have done sculptures for years. In my clay sculptures, I have always loved the subtraction process. I also have a tendency to be drawn to figurative shapes in motion or showing emotion.
That leads me to where I am at now as an artist. I just took a leap of faith seven months ago into stone carving. Because the only way to create sculptures in stone is through subtraction, it has been a natural fit for me. It is exciting to venture into this new medium and continue to learn new techniques through experimentation including using unusual finishes.
