Although my work includes various media and surfaces, this collection focused specifically on oil paints. I find that in both the art I most enjoy creating and experiencing, there’s always a rich contrast of textures and surprising splashes of color. My work is often more colorfully expressive than the reference may suggest and incorporates chunky, confident brush strokes.
Admittedly, the subjects I choose seem to fall into two categories: the first are common objects around my home that, although simple, evoke a familiar and often unifying emotion shared among strangers. There’s something comforting about the disappointment awaiting you at the bottom of an empty sangria glass or the longing of a hound dog awaiting your arrival home at the window. The second is the embodiment of more universal concepts like Mother Nature’s scorn watching humanity destroy her masterpiece or the anger we feel on one side or the other of a political argument.
