Artspace111 is proud to present Renewal and an all-woman show featuring works by North Texas based artists Carol Benson, Janet Chaffee, Allie Regan Dickerson, and Erika Huddleston. The exhibition presents masterful works produced in a wide range of mediums including lithography, encaustic paintings, oil paintings, ceramic works, drawings, and installation. Drawing inspiration from various sources such as memory, poetry, personal experiences, and observation, each artist portrays symbols of nature in her work. While each artist’s approach is unique, there are consistent underlying themes that overlap. Topics of introspection, growth and beauty. natural life cycles, and environmental stewardship.
Benson’s memory of the datura plant from her childhood, and the continued propagation of those plants over decades becomes a way for her to discuss botanic generational knowledge and stewardship, through the image of the beautiful blooms. Huddleston also addresses North Texas ecology through her direct observation of Natural Prairie landscapes and the history of untouched prairie. Dickerson faces death and mourning head on in her delicate work, presenting birds and flowers as a metaphor for grief and praise. Chaffee shares her introspective journey with us, as she embraces abstraction and natural elements in her work. The collision of opposing imagery invites questioning to spur self-growth.
Renewal will be on view September 9 - October 28, 2023 at Artspace111. The Opening Reception will be held on September 9, 2023 from 12-9pm and coincides with the Fort Worth Art Dealers Association’s Fall Gallery Night. Visitors may also visit the gallery during regular gallery hours, Tuesday – Friday 11am -5pm, and Saturday 11am -2pm.
