The collaborative effort of four of Fort Worth’s most accomplished young artists — Omar Hernandez, Greg Mansur, Eddy Rawlinson and Jason Reynaga — has traveled the local galleries over the past year, evolving with each new address. The early 2008 incarnation of “Cirkit of Mythos” will be unveiled Friday at Artspace 111 with a reception from 7 to 10 p.m. that is open to the public. The morphing installation of mixed-media pieces and digitally altered media is not typical gallery fare, it’s something new for the new year and beyond.

Cirkit of Mythos: Synaptic SNAP!

The Cirkit of Mythos is a labyrinth. It is a metaphor for the mind-forged manacles of our perception, a brilliant labyrinth that worships both Passion and Reason, setting us free yet holding us prisoner to persuasion. Like the wife of Minos being mounted by the White Bull, we are the offspring of an uncontrollable lust between Intellect and Ecstasy. A titanium scalpel cuts into a stem cell and our future is born. The Cirkit of Mythos is a requiem of one mythology and the beginning of the new.CIRKIT invitaion

John Hartley’s New Exhibit Begins Friday

November 6th, 2007

Join us for Flashback, an exhibit of John Hartley’s new paintings Friday, November 9, 6- 9 p.m.

Party Goers in the Gallery

Local Visual Artist
Readers’ choice: Randy Bacon

Staff choice: John Hartley

” John Currin ain’t got nuthin’ on this guy. The renowned postmodern classicist may be full of more subversive ideas than Hartley, but his brush doesn’t move any lighter, faster, or more deftly. That Hartley’s now getting the recognition he deserves proves that a cultural awakening is happening. Painting never went away. It’s just that in this era of vapidity, people are starting to realize the medium’s intellectual worth. Hartley — like Currin, Essenhigh, and Yuskavage — is leading the charge. ” (posted by the Fort Worth Weekly Online)

Artspace111 focuses on emerging and mid-career Texas artists working in a variety of media. In addition to monthly exhibitions, artists’ working studios add to the unique appeal of the gallery. It is here that artists are able to come together and create not only art, but also a community.

The project was HUGE but we pulled it off!

Leslie Lanzotti: FACE IT!
The project was HUGE but we pulled it off! As many of you know Artspace111 is in the middle of a transformation.

Artspace111 could not keep the doors closed. Two days before Fall Gallery Night I met with the artist to discussed how we could “make it work”. Leslie was so excited about her first solo show she could barely contain her joy. It was like she did not notice that we did not have any walls, lighting, or even a ceiling. But the show must go on. . .

As Gallery Night quickly approached everyone pitched in. Sheet rock went up on one side of all the walls, temporary lights were clamped to the open ceiling, and larger then life fans were brought in to cool off the patrons. Although it was still 1000 degrees and the fans only blew the heat around every one enjoyed themselves.

“Didn’t remember all that space back through the largish building, emptying into a formal back yard that might make a great place for a formal barbecue in the spring or fall. Extensive expansion. Can’t say I pay much attention to Fort Worth, but I make a point to visit this place, despite its silly me-too name every town already has too many of. Artspace. ” (posted by Dallas Arts Review- ThEdblog - 002)
